On Wednesday, January 22, 2020, Anita Mae Flint Wichert passed away at the age of 91 years at the Fairview Fellowship Home.

She was born September 5, 1928 in Ames, OK to Gurnie (Smith) and William Booker Flint. She was the older of two girls. Her sister was Lois Jean (Flint) Worden. Anita went to all 12 years of school in Ames, graduating High School in 1946.

Anita attended the Ames Christian Church. She was baptized at the age of 7 ˝ years. Anita grew up singing in the church and this continued throughout her adult life after marriage. She said her favorite song was O Holy Night which she sang for Christmas quite often over the years. Her last solo, she said was “Because He Lives” in 1993. She continued to sing in the choir up until the last few years.

One month after High School graduation at the age of 17, she met her future husband, Lester Wichert. They met uptown in Ames after being introduced by a friend. Anita was attending college at Phillips University in Enid. She took business classes and sang in the Glee Club while there. While attending college she worked at Travelers Insurance Company all summer until she married Lester on October 19, 1947.

Anita and Lester were married at the Central Christian Church in Enid. She and Lester moved to a farm Northwest of Fairview. They lived there and farmed and raised cattle for 25 years. They had their first child, Steven Bruce Wichert and the second child was Janice Ann (Wichert) Harder.

In 1962, they moved to town to the house on south 8th Street where Anita lived up until 6 months ago. One year after the move, Anita gave birth to her 3rd child, Christina Lea Wichert Williams. Three years later she had her 4th child Rodney Lynn Wichert.

In January 1976, Anita was widowed when her husband Lester passed away. She devoted her life to raising her two youngest children who were just 9 and 12 at the time. Anita was a hard worker who served others working as a nurse assistant at the Fairview Fellowship Home and working in a local hotel. Late in her working career she worked her favorite job as a secretary in the county courthouse.

Throughout her adult life, her involvement with the Fairview Mennonite Brethren church was a very important part of her life. She sang in the choir, was active in the ladies bible studies and could always be counted on to bring a desert or dish to help others in need. For many years she sang solo’s for special church events and programs.

Anita also was involved with the local Senior Citizens. She enjoyed the fellowship, the camaraderie of playing games and spending time with other seniors.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister.

Anita is survived by her children, Steve and Carol Wichert of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Janice and Ray Harder of Fairview, Christy and Doug Williams of Olathe, Kansas, and Rod and Jarilyn Wichert of Pampa, Texas, 12 grandchildren and their spouses and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church or Senior Citizens of Fairview. The Fairview Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
