New Hopedale Cemetery


The funeral for Pearl Unruh, 84, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Shorty Unruh officiating. Burial will be in New Hopedale Cemetery , Meno, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home .

She was born to Edgar David and Margaret (O'Hara) Howell May 30, 1925, in Blackpool, England, and died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Golden Oaks Nursing Home , Enid. Pearl grew up in Black-pool, England. On July 24, 1944, she married Dan Unruh in Blackpool. She came to the United States in 1946 on a war bride ship, along with 4000 other brides. The couple lived in various locations because of Dan's military career. They retired to Enid in 1979.

She is survived by her husband, Dan, of the home ; niece, Jackie Purnell of Blackpool, England; brothers-in-law, Walter and Madelene Unruh of Athens, Texas, Paul and Merle Unruh of Enid, and Leo and Gertie Unruh of Blanchard; and sisters-in-law, Susie Neufield of Golden Oaks, Enid, and Tillie Ekeland of Newton, Kan.

Pearl was preceded in death by one brother, Edgar David Howell; one sister, Doreen Alexander; and one daughter, Margaret Unruh.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Cedar Ridge Wesleyan Church.
