Orville Lee Owens, age 85, passed away on March 30, 2015 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid, OK surrounded by his family.

Orville was born on January 29, 1930 to Carl and Mae Owens and grew up in the Waurika area during the Great Depression. Following the footsteps of his older brothers, he proudly enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during the Occupation of Japan, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Orville did many forms of service during his career. He was an Expert Marksman and he received many awards of excellence during his service. He was a career serviceman serving his country for over 20+ years. After his military retirement, he served as a police officer, owned several small businesses and eventually retired from his construction business in 1985.

He met his first wife of 30 years, Yoko Sasaki while stationed in Japan. They were united in marriage on December 2, 1955 in Sendai, and remained together until her passing in1985 after a long battle with cancer. Together they had 4 children, Wayne, Roger, Charlton and Leigh Ann. On August 4, 1990 he married his second wife, Judith Tyska and gained two more wonderful children, Tina and Michael. Orville loved his step-children just as he did his own and would not refer to them as “step”, but only as “My son, Michael and my daughter, Tina”. Orville and Judith lived in the Longdale area for 15+ years together until his passing.

He will most be remembered for his compassion for those less fortunate than him, his dedication to his country, his work ethic, his adventurous personality and his very unique sense of humor. His most distinguishing features were his beautiful sky blue eyes and engaging smile.

His children and grandchildren loved to gather around him to hear stories of his childhood growing up in the Great Depression and of the many war stories that he would often tell. He had a unique gift for writing poetry and had an exceptional talent for music. The love and talents that he had were passed down to his children and grandchildren where it became a family tradition to gather together to play music and to enjoy each other’s company.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mae Owens and his six brothers, Robert, Hubert, Raymond, James, Gene and Dewey, and one sister, Jewel.
