Fairview Cemetery


The graveside service for Ira J. Fyffe, 85, will be 10 a.m. today, May 2, 2009, in Fairview Cemetery . The Rev. Vernon Lee will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Ira was born to Ira Frank and Masel (Hickman) Fyffe on Oct. 23, 1923, on a farm southeast of Meno, Okla., homesteaded by his grandparents and died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

He served in the Air Force during World War II, stationed in Guam and then in Boise, Idaho. He then returned home and farmed in the Ames community until his retirement. On Feb. 14, 1948, Ira married Lavon Lovingier in Enid. The couple made their home on the farm. To this union one daughter, Mary Louise, was born. On July 22, 1971, he married Wilda Marie Carpenter. He enjoyed collecting tractors and going to auctions.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; a sister, Ruby DeHaas; and one nephew, Donald Rikli.

Ira is survived by his daughter, Mary Louise and husband Wayne Woods of Waukomis ; five stepchildren, Bob and Lois Carpenter of Tulsa, Allen Carpenter, Charles Carpenter of Modesto, Calif., Frank and Cathy Carpenter of Manteca, Calif., and Wanda Dixon of Fairview; also two sisters, Emma Rikli and Kathleen Reim, both of Enid; stepgrandchildren, Silvia and Isaac, Ira Jayson Carpenter, and Marti Drantley; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Ames Fire Department.
