Funeral services for Elsie Mae Edwards, 94, of Fairview formerly of Canton, will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Fairview, Oklahoma. The Reverend Dennis King will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Elsie Mae was born September 24, 1923, in Fairview, Oklahoma, to Leo A. and Goldie M. (Warner) Bowers and passed from this life January 9, 2018 at the age of 94 years. Elsie married Howard Stanford on August 31, 1940 and the couple was blessed with three children, Gene and Bonnie and Jerry who died at birth. She was employed as janitress by United States Gypsum in Southard, Oklahoma. Elsie received a certificate of 25 years and a watch for her dedicated service at the plant and eventually retired from USG. After Howard’s passing in 1983, Elsie would remarry, both times surviving her husbands, Clarence Weber and Clarence Edwards, in death.

Elsie was a hard worker, a loving mother and grandmother. She was a fabulous cook and an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed gardening and canning the produce for later use. Gardening was what she really missed when she went into the Fairview Fellowship Home. Elsie had many friends and will be missed by all who knew her.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Will, Richard and Herbert Bowers, one sister, Karen Strickland, and three husbands; Howard Stanford, Clarence Weber and Clarence Edwards and one daughter-in-law, Donna Stanford.

She leaves to mourn her passing: one son, Gene Stanford and his wife Nancy, of Edmond, OK, one daughter, Bonnie Honeyfield and husband G.M. of Fort Cobb, OK, one sister, Clara Barnes and husband Harvey of Enid, OK, five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials can be made to OMRF Cancer Division with the funeral home acting as custodian.
