Fairview Cemetery


Funeral Services for Erwin Leonard Eck, 93, of Fairview, will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Fairview First Baptist Church. Reverends Dewayne Berg and David Mendehall will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 14th from 9 am to 5 pm and Thursday, August 15th from 9 am to 7 pm at the Fairview Funeral Home Inc.

Leonard Eck was born August 15, 1919 in Homestead, OK to Reuben B. and Lydia Ann (Nightengale) Eck and passed away August 10, 2013 at Clinton VA Center in Clinton, Oklahoma.

Leonard attended grade school at Progressive School and High School at Fairview. After he graduated high school he went to Oklahoma State A&M for two years. Leonard married Edna Simpson on May 17, 1942 and four days later he joined the U.S. Army and went to serve his country during WWII. He served in the Pacific Campaign and was involved in the Philippine Liberation. Leonard was honorably discharged as a SSgt on September 30, 1945 and he returned home to his loving wife and the farm. Leonard enjoyed farming and carpentry. In 1947 with his Dad, he built Edna and his first home. For many years Leonard built home in and around Fairview and helped many people remodel their homes. After he retired, Edna and Leonard would winter in Yuma Arizona and return to Fairview in the spring and farm the home place.

Leonard was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairview and active when he was younger. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife Edna. Edna passed away October 22, 1995. A few months later on February 3, 1996, Leonard married a longtime friend Dorothy Godwin who also pre-deceased him. Leonard was a gentle man that will be missed by all that knew him.

Leonard is survived by his daughter Regina and her husband Melvin, six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both of his wives, son Don Ray Eck, grandson Robert Warner, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion with Fairview Funeral Home Inc. acting as custodian.
