Lauretta Maye Turner
January 23, 1928 - January 17, 2024

The funeral for Lauretta Maye Turner, 95 year-old former Ames resident is 11:00 AM Saturday, January 20, 2024 in the Henninger-Hinson Chapel. Rev. Gail Edmison is officiating. Burial will be January 22, 2024 at 12:30 PM in Ames.

Lauretta was born January 23, 1928 in Hennessey, OK to Earl and Jaunita (Henthorn) Munkres and died Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in Greenbrier Skilled Nursing. She attended Ames schools and graduated with the class of 1946. After graduating she moved with her family to San Francisco. CA. where she worked with an insurance broker. She returned to Ames where she worked at a law firm and later in life for the Fairview Republican.

On August 1, 1950 she married George Raymond Turner in his parents home in Ames where the couple made their home. She was a long-time member of the Ames Christian Church and of the Good Cheer Homemakers Club. She participated in assisting with the Ames Veterans Memorial.

She enjoyed oil painting, birdwatching, gardening, camping and fishing. She loved animals, especially her cat Tom. She enjoyed in her later years to watch the children get on and off the school bus and play at Ames splash pad. She was also a music lover and for many years attended Longdale Country Opera every Sunday night.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Lou Moore and husband Arthur of Drummond, Lisa Marie Briggs of Pond Creek, and Richard Lee Turner of Ames. 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one sister Betty Lou Lane of Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Billy Gene Munkres and sister Jenny Lee Sturgeon.

Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to either The Boys Club or America Legion Jayne-Kennedy Post 340 Ames.
