Ames Cemetery


A graveside service for Max Kenneth Moyers, age 93, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Ames Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Steve Meiers officiating. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Max was born to Joseph and Lela (Lovely) Moyers on July 21, 1915, in Ames and died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at Golden Oaks Retirement Village in Enid.

He grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School. On July 7, 1937, he married Flavia E. Wheeler in Ardmore. Max attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford earning his bachelor's degree, later earning a master's degree from Phillips University. Max taught school in Ames, Cherokee and Ringwood. He retired from Fairview schools, where he was the high school principal for many years. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Fairview. After his retirement, the Moyers moved to Enid in 1989.

Max is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Flavia, of the home; two daughters, Judith Moyers of Tulsa and Patricia Colley of Germantown, TN; one son, Kenneth Moyers of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Craig Moyers of Albuquerque, NM, Darin McClain of Tulsa, Amanda Colley-Gardner of Boston, MA, and Dr. Jeremy Colley of New York City, NY.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Manard Moyers, and sister, Marie Morse.
