Henry Mackie, Strip Pioneer Is Dead

Services were held Sunday afternoon in the Ames Methodist Church for Henry Mackie, 84, who passed away Wednesday.

A retired farmer since 1943, Mackie, born in Pennsylvania, came to Oklahoma in 1893. He made the run in the opening of the Cherokee Strip and staked a claim near Capron. He moved to the Ames community 47 years ago, farming in that area until moving to Ames in 1943.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter and son, Mrs. Aaron Turk and Harold Mackie, of Ames; two brothers, William of Concordia, Kansas, and Arziah, Trumway, Iowa, and five grandchildren.
