Russell Lloyd and Betty Mae LOVELY

Ames Cemetery

March 7, 1921 - October 2, 2006

Russell Lloyd Lovely died Monday, October 2, 2006, after an extended battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his brother, W. R., who died as a child, and wife Betty on December 14, 1999.

He was born March 7, 1921 in Ames, Oklahoma to Russell and Era Sharpless Lovely. In 1939, he graduated from Ames high school, then attended OU for two years. During World War II and the Korean conflict he served as a quartermaster in the U.S. Navy, stationed overseas for the majority of the time. After his double hitch and honorable discharge, he moved to Enid to pursue a career in accounting.

One evening while going through the checkout line at Safeway Grocery, he spotted Betty Mae Pierce and some would say, the rest is history, as they were soon married on September 6, 1954. In 1986, after 30 years of service to Groendyke Transportation Inc., he retired.

He was a former commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 2270, a charter member of Enid Men's Garden Club, member of St. Francis Catholic Church and frequently attended Central Christian Church.

He is survived by three daughters, Perry and Larry Brown of Springfield, Missouri, Corena and Ken Lipstreuer of Kingwood, Texas, and Jo and Darryl Rogers of Enid; one grandson, Russell and Sarah Hartlein; four granddaughters, Nicole and James Hostetler, Erin and Mike Heslin, Kensey Lipstreuer and Morgan Lipstreuer, and two great-grandchildren, Ella Maye Hostetler and Justin Hartlein; a brother, Robert and Alice Lovely; sister, Quzenne and Bill Rollowon; and loving companion, Irene Green.

A visitation will be at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM tonight. A celebration of life service will be 10:30 AM Friday at Ladusau-Evans Chapel. Burial will follow in Ames Cemetery.

Special thanks to Dr. Shelton, Dr. Bartolozzi, the nursing and PT staff at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center and the Arbors Assisted Living Center.
