Ames Cemetery


Graveside services for Harlin Wendell Larr, 89, Enid, and former Ames resident, will be Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ames Cemetery with Pastor Les Washnock officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ames American Legion Post #340. Services are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service. Visitation with the family present will be this evening (3-30-2012), from 5-8:00 p.m. at Stittsworth’s, 2420 N. Washington, Enid.

Wendell was born on November 14, 1922 in Sharon, Oklahoma, the son of Edward John and Nora Easter McDowell Larr, and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in Enid. He was raised and educated in Ringwood. Wendell married Donna Marie Reynolds of Ames on June 23, 1943. He served in the United States Army during World War II . Wendell returned to Ames and lived there until 1951 when they moved to Wichita, where he was employed as a mechanic. In 1961, they returned to Ames where he farmed, worked as a mechanic, and was an Ames School bus driver. He moved to Enid in 1992 after the death of his wife, Donna Marie.

Wendell was a member of the Church of the Brethren, attended Cowboy Church. Wendell loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, quail hunting, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include daughters, Wendella Kirchner of Ames, Connie Fruits of Oklahoma City, Victoria (Vicki) and husband Jerry Jones of Enid, and Roberta (Roby) and husband Daryl DeHaas of Ames; grandchildren, Renee Cottrill, Becky Denny, Shannon Lackey, Jerry Don Jones, Craig Jones, Stephanie Patterson, Robert Kirchner, Sam DeHaas, Reesa Pearce, and Justin DeHaas; 23 great-grandchildren.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Donna Marie.

Memorials may be made in Wendell’s memory to the Ames Cemetery with the Stittsworth Family serving as custodian of the fund.
