Ames Cemetery


January 26, 1931 - March 28, 2009

The funeral for Kenneth Ray “Pee-wee” Hoisington, 78, of Ames, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Ames First Baptist Church. The Rev. Jake Snodgrass will officiate. Burial will be in Ames Cemetery with military honors by Ames American Legion Jaynes-Kennedy Post 340. Arrangements are by Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

He was born Jan. 26, 1931, northwest of Ames to Howard Spillman and Juanita Ruth Patton Hoisington and died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at his home.

He graduated from Ames High School in 1949. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War, stationed in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged and returned to Ames, where he was co-owner of the Texaco station. He entered the construction business as a crane operator for Davis and Sons Construction, Enid.

He married Donna Marie Willson May 28, 1960, in Drummond. They made their home in Enid until moving to a farm northeast of Ames. He was an Ames volunteer firefighter for 20 years. He worked with Wiggins Auction Co. for a few years. He was a deacon and life-long member of Ames First Baptist Church. He also was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and served as chairman of the Republican Party in Major County for a time.

Surviving are his wife Donna, of the home; five children, Shelly Jean Sherrod of Greenville, Ill., Robert Dean of Edmond, Debra Olene Davenport of Carrollton, Texas, Kendra Renee Hensley of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Donel Howard of Oklahoma City; one brother, Kenton Dale “K.D.” Hoisington of Tryon; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Ames First Baptist Church or Ames Volunteer Fire Department.
