Iver Raymond Crawford was born January 6, 1917 in Ames to Raymond Book and Nettie Nelson Crawford and died December 10,1999 in Ames at the age of 82.

He married Ailleen Viola Brittain and to this union was born one son.

ENID, Okla. — Aileen Viola (Brittain) Crawford passed from ths life at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, with her granddaughter, Jami Bergdall, at her side. She had spent the previous day with family.

Aileen was born Jan. 27, 1923, one-half mile east and one mile north of Ames, Okla., on her grandfather Vance’s farm. Her parents were Everett and Julia (Vance) Brittain.

Aileen attended Ames Public School, where she graduated Valedictorian of her senior class in 1940, and played basketball for the Ames Lady Wildcats.

On Sept. 3, 1940, she married Iver Crawford, a farmer. They lived in the Ames community all of their married lives. They enjoyed attending activities that included their children or grandchildren.

They enjoyed travel, RV’ing and fishing at Canton Lake during the later years of their marriage. They had been married 59 years at the time of Iver’s death on Dec. 10, 1999.

Aileen had a servant’s heart and found joy in helping others. She taught Sunday school and was a member of the “Good Cheer Club” in Ames. She played piano. She was a caregiver and very independent about taking care of herself in later years. She liked to collect old things, especially old corktop bottles and rocks.

In 2002, she moved to Watonga, Okla., where she enjoyed making new friends and attending senior activities.

More recently she lived at Greenbrier Assisted Living and The Commons in Enid, Okla.

Aileen was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two sisters, Velva Hawk and Edna Pauline Brittain; three brothers, Elza Brittain, Raymond Brittain and Clarence Brittain.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Skalenda; two daughters, Beverly Hill and husband Cotton, Crescent, Okla., and Jeanette Gregory and husband Jim, Enid, Okla.; a son, Leroy Crawford and wife Jane, Watonga, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Sam Hill, Lisa Graff, Trisha Bernardy, Darin Gregory, Curtis Gregory, Jami Bergdall, Kyle Crawford, Julie Moore, Jarrod Roach and Justin Roach; 21 great- grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Oakwood Christian Church, 401 N. Oakwood, in Enid, Okla. Viewing will be available one hour before the service.

Final internment will be in Ames Cemetery, one-half mile north of her birthplace. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ames Fire Department or Ames Cemetery.
