Services for Ruth Imogene Smith Hull, 87, of Wilson, were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 12 at the First Baptist Church, Wilson, with Elder Hylton Crain officiating, Elder Allen Daniels delivering the eulogy, and Elder Mark Wattenbarger as song leader.

Interment was held at the Simon Cemetery, with Elder Ed Kirkpatrick officiating.

Born June 20, 1922 at Simon, the daughter of Reese Samuel and Hattie Lee Wood Smith, she died Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Healdton. Reared south of Wilson, Mrs. Hull lived at Post Oak and attended her first eight years of school there. She attended three years at Orr and graduated from High School in Durant in 1940. She and Dr. John Wesley Hull were married December 31, 1938, and he preceded her in death on May 25, 1992. Mrs. Hull’s teaching career began at the age of 16 at a one-room schoolhouse where she prepared soup, beans and cornbread or biscuits. All the students were required to bring their own cup and spoon and gather the wood for the fire. She attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Mrs. Hull later obtained her master’s degree at the University of Oklahoma in 1952. She and her husband began their teaching careers at Pike Public Schools, then Blackjack, Simon and Wheeler. When they received master’s degrees, the couple both served at Rexroat Schools, teaching there until its closing in 1961. They then moved to Wilson Public Schools, teaching there until her retirement in 1984 after 39 years of teaching grade one through 12. Beyond her teaching career, Mrs. Hull was a very devoted mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and caregiver. She was always a very faithful servant of the Lord and had been a member of the Cornish Primitive Baptist Church since 1950.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Lynn Henderson and Desiree and Steve Shores of Wilson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Lucinda Hull and David and Kellie Hull of Ardmore; two sisters, Margie McClendon of Aledo, Texas and June Morris of Ardmore; grandchildren, Danann Talley and husband Josh, Samantha Crook and husband David, Gabriel Hull and wife Brandi, Ragan Parkerson and wife Melisa, Johnathan Henderson, Kristopher Henderson, Sarah Gunter and husband Joseph, Rachel Shores and Daniel Hull and wife Kyla; great-grandchildren, Alex and Katie Camp, Rebeccah Vernon, Sydnee Hull, Madelynn Gunter, Taylor Crook, Tanner Crook, Tyler Crook and Averly Parkerson; and numerous other family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jarvis A. Smith on November 19, 1996; and a brother, Garth Smith on April 24, 2009.

Pallbearers were all of her nephews, Dierk Smith, Craig Smith, Admiral Wesley V. Hull, Ronnie McClendon, Jerry Wood, Dale Hull, Dr. Don Hull, Kirk McClendon, Clayton Smith, Mitchell Hull, Tommy Hull, Larry Hull, Gary Hull, Elray Coyle, Mike Hull, Wayne Allison, E.J. Morton, Bobby Frank Hull, Mark Morris and Harry Lee Morris. Honorary pallbearers were David Crook, Joseph Gunter, Alex Camp, Josh Talley, Paul Morris, Charlie Morris, Ron Shores, Curtis Shores, Tom Worsham, Ike Kyle, Jack Richardson, L.C. Loving, Grady Worsham, Roy Hunziker, Doug Morris and Dave Cormany.
