Mrs. Hockersmith was born February 28, 1928, at Asher, the daughter of John Marshal and Pearl Mae Bates. She died Sunday, June 2, 2002 in Ardmore. She moved from Dale, Oklahoma at the age of 11 with her family to Eastman, where she attended school at Meadowbrook. She and James Houston “Jim” Hockersmith were united in marriage on February 21, 1946, at Marietta. They lived at Pike until they moved to Abner in 1957. Mrs. Hockersmith was employed by the Marietta Pants Factory in Marietta for 10 years, then retired from the Marietta Cookie Shop after 17 years of employment. She was a member of the Abner Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jim of the home; two daughters, Glynda Fetgatter of Pauls Valley and Ann Nipp of Abner; three sons, J.P. Hockersmith of Lone Grove, Pat Hockersmith of Abner and James H. Hockersmith Jr. of Ogden, Utah; a niece whom they raised, Sue Meely of Lone Grove; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hockersmith was preceded in death
by her parents and all her siblings, Jack, Christine, Haskell and
Paul.
Pallbearers were Lynn Hockersmith,
Lance Hockersmith, Billy Fetgatter, Robert Fetgatter, Ocie Wilson
and Joshua Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Johnnie Nipp, Chad
Hockersmith, Jennifer Nipp, Jamie Smith, Melissa Hughes and James H.
Hockersmith III.
Interment was in the Simon Cemetery, south of Wilson, under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.
