Graveside service for Thomas Monroe “Sonny” Culwell, 78, of Simon were held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 10 at Simon Cemetery with Rev. Joshua Gunter officiating.

Born July 2, 1934 at Simon, the son of Thomas Marion “Curly”, Jr. and Altha Nora Sexton Culwell, he died Friday, May 3, 2013 at his farm in Simon. Sonny attended school initially at Simon and later graduated at Meadowbrook. He and the former Ms. Joyce Romines were united in marriage on March 21, 1953 at Wilson. They made their home in Simon residing on the farm. Sonny was a quiet but loving man who worked all of his life. He was a taxi driver, surveyor, truck driver, machinist, bus driver, security guard and rancher. His hobbies were working on old cars and reading airplane magazines. 

His wife Joyce preceded him in death on January 19, 2009.   Also preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Janette Carlile and husband Aaron of Overbrook and Cheryl Culwell of Davis; two granddaughters, Brandi Carlile of Oklahoma City and Lori Mai and husband Wayne of Overbrook; two great-granddaughters, Kaylyn Barbour and Tyler Mai; a special friend Sandra Welch of Ardmore and many other family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers were Danny Gray, Jimmy Morgan, Finley Morgan, Pete Carlile, Terry Hix, Jerry Hix, Steven Carroll and James Williams.
