Services for Eusebio Lara “Mark” Canales Jr., 81, of Marietta will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 27, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Father Oby Zunmas and Rev. Les Bussell officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow in the Rubottom Cemetery, Rubottom.

Born May 25, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Eusebio and Antonia Canales, he died Monday, March 23, 2009 in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore. A resident of Love County with 1968, Mr. Canales had previously made his home in Waukegan, Illinois, where he was an employee of John Mansfield Roofing. Since moving to Love County, Mr. Canales had worked as a mechanic.

He and Leidia Pena Diaz were married November 18, 1947 in Waukegan, and she preceded him in death on May 26, 1977.

Mr. Canales was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army during which time he was awarded the American Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, visiting with friends, spending time with family and enjoying family gatherings and cookouts. Mr. Canales was a Catholic.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Juan “Johnny” Canales of Comanche, Benito “Benny” and Pam Canales of Comanche, Benito “Benny” and Pam Canales of Jasper, Tennessee, Jesus “Jesse” Canales of Courtney and Marcos “Marcus” and Sheila Canales of Rubottom; three daughters, Dora Sellers, Maria Canales and Felicia “MeMe” Willingham, all of Marietta; two brothers, Daniel Canales of San Antonio and Fernando “Freddie” Canales of Chicago; a sister, Mary Santana of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret and Jayne; and a son-in-law, Willy Sellers.

Pallbearers will be Jason Canales, Jeremy Jarrett, Shane Patty, Shannon Patty, Allen Doss and Barney Staples. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A rosary and visitation will be conducted from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
