Services for Luther A. "Buck" Ward, 67, were Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home Chapel, Ardmore, conducted by Bob Smee, Northeast Church of Christ.
Born July 16, 1929, at Tahoka, Texas, the son of Andrew Jackson and Mabel Lee Sullivan Ward, Mr. Ward died March 20, 1997, in an Ardmore hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Ward had spent his life working in the oil fields of Oklahoma, Alaska and offshore with mainly the Noble, Parker and Thomas Drilling Companies, retiring in 1990. He and Joy Ashcraft were married October 30, 1949, at Wilson, and they moved to Ardmore in 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joy Ward of the home; a daughter, Nicole Ward, also of the home; three sons, Verlin Gene Ward of Lone Grove, and Donald Lee Ward and Dana Andrew Ward of Ardmore; two sisters, Bessie Cartwright of Morton, Texas, and Jessie Norvell of Andrews, Texas; three brothers, Eric Ward of Marietta, Bill Ward of Macomb and Billy Jack Ward of Ardmore; his mother-in-law, Irene Ashcraft of Gainesville, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grand-children.
Mr. Ward was preceded in death by a grandson, Verlin G. Ward II.
Services were directed by Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Vernon Denney, Kenneth Raines, Lester Ford, Robert Layton, James Layton and Keith Blankenship.
