Services for George Edward Westbrook, 87, of Lone Grove were at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church of Lone Grove. Officiating were Rev. Don Clark, Rev. Leo Pott and Rev. Morgan Ashworth.
Mr. Westbrook was born February 24, 1912, in DeQueen, Arkansas, the son of J.S. and Mallie Brown Westbrook, and died August 6, 1999, at his residence in Lone Grove.
He and the former Alma M. Heiderich were married January 5, 1935, in Marietta. Mr. Westbrook was a terminal worker for Mobil Oil Corporation, retiring in 1969. He then worked as a farmer and rancher. Mr. Westbrook was a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Lone Grove for 62 years and also served on the Lone Grove School Board in the 1950's. He was an avid coon and wolf hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alma Westbrook of the home at Lone Grove; a daughter, Elizabeth Voncille Magee of Ardmore; five brothers, Ray Westbrook and Bob Westbrook of DeQueen, Cullus Westbrook of Modesto, California, Ted Westbrook of Plano, Texas, and Author Westbrook of Oregon; grandchildren, Robbie Franklin Magee, Debbie Magee and Carrie Beth Magee Roberts and her husband, Tony Roberts of Lone Grove; a great-granddaughter, Elisha (Hoppy) Rashelle Roberts of Lone Grove.
Mr. Westbrook was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Deanna Vonetta Magee; a grandson, Kevin Wayne Magee; two sisters and a brother.
Interment in Lakeview Cemetery was directed by Craddock Funeral Home. Pallbearers were deacons of Lone Grove's First Baptist Church, Woody Potts, Calvin Foster, Frank Bural, Lester Artherholt, David Hatley, Gary Crosthwait, Derek Hallum, Joe Word, Marvin Mashburn, Bobby Townley, Darrel Williams, Henry Burton, Larry Twyford and Harold Newman. Honorary bearers were members of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class.
