Services for Wayne G. Varner, 66, of Marietta, were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 30, in the Shady Dale Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Sconce and the Rev. Tony Caro officiating.
Mr. Varner was born October 17, 1935, at Munday, Texas, the son of Adline Elizabeth Stanley and William Earl Varner, Sr. He died Monday, May 27, 2002, at his residence in Marietta.
He had been a resident of Love County for the past 25 years. He and Joyce M. Powell were married March 7, 1959, in Marietta. A retired truck driver, Mr. Varner was a member of the Shady Dale Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce M. Varner of the home; a son, Robert G. Varner of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Brent Sykora of Marietta; a brother, William Earl Varner, Jr. of Blue; a sister, Lillie Mae Hodge of Mead; and five grandchildren, Aaron, Tye, Mallory, Bailey and Mandy.
Mr. Varner was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jimmy Varner and Rob Varner.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Williams, Randall Harris, Ronnie Savage, Ted Freeman, Butch Sykora and David Wayne Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. J.T. O'Connor, Pat Owens, Warner Fellabaum, Bobby Perkins and Jerry Cowan.
Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, 1514 Meadow Lane, Ardmore, OK 73401.
