Services for Hershel Lee Turner, 55, of Ardmore, were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, at Sunrise Baptist Church, Ardmore, with the Rev. E.J. Patterson officiating.
Mr. Turner was born April 14, 1948, in Ardmore, the son of Dick Turner and Mary Patterson. He died Wednesday, August 27, 2003, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
He had been a resident of Ardmore all of his life. A 1966 graduate of Douglass High School in Ardmore, Mr. Turner was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army. He attended Sunrise Baptist Church in Ardmore.
Survivors include a son, Gregory Turner of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Toni Turner of Dallas; a brother and sister-in-law, Vernell and Vergie Stoughtenborough of Ardmore; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Delma and Geronimo Moreno of La Mirada, California, and Joyce Ann and Rivers Dalton of Lady Lake, Florida; an uncle, Bobby Joe Purvey and wife, Regina of Gainesville, Texas; an aunt, Peggy Purvey of Ardmore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his mother, Mary "Pat" Jiles on February 17, 1987; his father, Dick Turner; grandmother, Velma Ross on February 7, 1982; and a sister, Mary Ann Carter on December 7, 1987.
Pallbearers were Jackie Pickens, Michael Lynn Benjamin, Charles Allen, Alex Turner, Archie Patton and Ronald Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Biggers, Arron Finely and Ralph Williams. Serving as flower girls were his nieces.
Interment with military honors was in the Clearview Cemetery, Ardmore, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
