Services for Roscoe Elbert Smart were March 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. Leonard Vogt officiating.
Mr. Smart was born June 25, 1915, in Thackerville, the son of Mary Jane Smart, and died March 18, 1995, at his home in Fairview.
He began working for the Santa Fe Railroad in 1938, a vocation that he held for 40 years. The only interruption in this service was a tour of duty in France during World War II with the 73oth Army Railway Battalion.
Mr. Smart met Pauline Epp in Fairview, and they were married June 17, 1947. They lived in both Kansas and Oklahoma before settling in Fairview. A longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, Mr. Smart became even more involved in organizations after his retirement in 1978. These included the American Legion, Shriners and the Senior Citizen Center. He was very active in these organizations until failing health restricted his activities.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pauline Smart of the home in Fairview; two sons, Bill Smart of Enid and Mark Smart of Fairview; two daughters, Sherryl Plank of Enid and Diana Smart of Dallas, Texas; and five grandchildren.
Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home. Serving as casket bearers were Mark Smart, Bill Smart, Dan Plank, Derek Smart, Joe Johnson and David Epp. Honorary bearers included Nick Berry, Roy Crow, Udean Gaylord, Chet Payton, Vern Kinsey and Richard Wortman.
