Services for Lucille Patton Smith, 97, of Madill, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 31, at the Crossroads Baptist Church, Madill, with Eric Dennis and Durlin LeJeune officiating.
Mrs. Smith was born July 20, 1905, in Marietta, Indian Territory, the only child of Joe and Mollie Patton. She died January 28, 2003.
A resident of the Brookside Nursing Home, Madill, Mrs. Smith had previously lived in Lawton, prior to moving to Lake Texoma. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1922 and continued her education at Southeastern University, Durant. Mrs. Smith later taught school at Jimtown and Leon. She and Marvin Aubrey Smith were married May 4, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan. Mrs. Smith was an avid fisherman, having fished in many states. She was active in Northside Baptist Church at Lawton, as well as Texoma Southern Baptist Church, Buncombe Creek, Kingston, and finally had her membership at Crossroads Baptist Church in Madill. Mrs. Smith worked with Baptist women in WMU for many years.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Donald and Sammie J. Smith of Mead, and Tommy Joe Smith of the home; four grandchildren, Michael and Dale Smith of Columbia, South Carolina, Melinda and Bryan Hardcastle of Edmond, Kevin Smith of Oklahoma City and Sharon DeMarco of Michigan; eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grand-child.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Marvin Aubrey Smith.
Pallbearers were Tom Campbell, Shy Bishop, Bryan Hardcastle, Gary Oliver, Jerry Lollis and Eddie Martin.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill.
