Serivces for Douglas F. Simon, 77, of Marietta, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 1, at Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Harris officiating, and Carol Wayne Flanagan delivering the eulogy.
Mr. Simon was born August 20, 1925, in Love County, the son of Ben and Berta Mae Foster Simon. He died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at his home in Marietta.
Born and raised in Love County, Mr. Simon moved to Grand Prairie, Texas, at the age of 24 and then returned to Marietta to make his home in 1971. He and Loucreta Sconce were married September 25, 1944, in Marietta. A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Simon received the Victory Medal and the Rifle M-1 Marksman Medal. He earned a master plumber's license in Austin, Texas, and he was foreman for Dennis Brothers Plumbing Company in Grand Prairie for 12 years. While living there, he also coached boys baseball teams for four years. After returning to Marietta, Mr. Simon began his own plumbing business. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, Marietta, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Simon, of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas F. Jr. and Barbara Simon of Grand Prairie and Larry Simon of Austin; a daughter, Donna Lou Simon of Austin; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grand-children.
Mr. Simon was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, John Stephen Simon on August 31, 2002.
Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Bond, Dale Harris, Al Hendrix, G.W. Flanagan, Leon Brown and Carol Wayne Flanagan. Honorary pallbearers will be Jess Bond, Marty Ross and Thurman Vinson.
Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
