Services for Bessie Faye Smith, 82, of Denton, Texas, were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 5, at Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, with the Rev. Ronnie Harris officiating.
Mrs. Smith was born February 19, 1920, in Healdton, the daughter of John Henry and Bonnie Mae Benson Barrick. She died Thursday, October 3, 2002, in the Lake Forest Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Denton.
She had been a resident of Denton County since December 1999, previously making her home in the Loves Valley community for 30 years. She and Richard Franklin Smith were married in Gainesville, Texas, on January 19, 1942, and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1969. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and an active member of Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, where she was a member of the choir and also taught Sunday School. She served as a 4-H Club leader and worked for the Love County Election Board during elections.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Sidney A. and Bonnie Smith of Texas City, Texas, and William H. "Bill" and Michell Smith of Denison, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy M. and Bruce Schiefelbein of Lewisville, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Jeannine Barrick of Burneyville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian and Claude James Bone of Marietta, Juanita and Cecil "Dutch" Idell of Burneyville, and Lois and Don Townsend of Oklahoma City; and four grandchildren, E. Renee Smith, B.J. Smith, D.J. Smith and Missy Smith.
Mrs. Smith ws also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Fred Barrick, Ray Barrick, J.T. Barrick and Chock Barrick; a sister, Velma Jones; a son, Richard Smith; a granddaughter, Richelle Smith; and a nephew, Tony Barrick.
Pallbearers were B.J. Smith, D.J. Smith, Corky Cartwright, Mike Barrick, Vernon Barrick, Larry Barrick, Jimmy Bone and Stan Idell. Honorary pallbearers were Jay Barrick, Sam Barrick, Greg Idell, Don Townsend Jr. and Rocky Barrick.
Interment was in Burneyville Cemetery, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
