Serivces for Rena B. Warthen Powell, 88, will be held at 2 p.m. today (Friday), October 27, at Landmark Baptist Church in Ardmore with the Rev. Gene Branscum officiating.
Mrs. Powell was born June 23, 1912, at Rubottom, the daughter of Daniel N. and Josie A. Catlin Chitwood. She died Tuesday, October 24, 2000 in Euless, Texas.
She and Guy Warthen were married October 26, 1929, at Rubottom. Seven children were born to that marriage. He preceded her in death. In 1956, Mrs. Powell moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, and was employed at the Holly Dress Shop and the local bus station. She and Morgan Powell, of Wichita Falls, were married in 1965 and made their home in Hurst, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1988.
Mrs. Powell's hobbies centered around her family, quilting and geneology. She authored several family articles for publication.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne A. Warthen of Ardmore, and Ray G. Warthen and Pat Ziobro of Bethel Island, California; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Warthen Wallace and Homer Wallace of Hurst, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Janice Whatley Warthen of Ardmore; one sister, Alta Faye Jobe of Marietta; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Powell was also preceded in death by two infant daughters; and two sons, Charles Lee in 1979 and Billy M. in 2000.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Brown, Otis Chitwood, Stuart Harlin, Kendall Johnson, Mark McClelland and Don Watkins.
Interment will be at 4 p.m. in the Ringling Memorial Cemetery, Ringling, under the direction of Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home, Ardmore.
