Services for Maze "Cornbread" Parsons Jr., 62, of Thackerville, were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 27, at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel in Marietta, with the Rev. Ronnie Carroll officiating.
Mr. Parsons was born March 1, 1939, in Love County, the son of Vona Evans and Maze Parsons Sr. He died Sunday, December 23, 2001, in Mercy Health Love County in Marietta.
A resident of Love County most of his life, Mr. Parsons was retired from construction, having worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a 1957 graduate of Thackerville High School and a 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Parsons attended Christ Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Marietta.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Sharon Kidd Prestage of Gainesville, Texas; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Curtis Parsons of Gainesville and Tony and Lori Parsons of Aubrey, Texas; a stepson, Jimmy Hinkley of Sherman, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Jim Shaw of Gainesville; two brothers, Kenneth Parsons of Carrollton, Texas, and Jerry Parsons of Marietta; four sisters, LaQuitta Olsen of Denton, Texas, Nora Hatcher of Arlington, Texas, Gail Price of Gainesville and Ruthie Gaither of Arlington; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Parsons was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Parsons; a stepson, Bill Hinkley; and a granddaughter, Crystal Elise Parsons.
Pallbearers were nephews Keith Griffith, David Wayne Hatcher, Matt Parsons, Kevin Parsons, Jeff Parsons and Jason Gaither. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Narramore, Byron Reed and Jim Welch.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home in Marietta.
