Services for Elmer M. Newman were Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Marietta. Officiating was Rev. Stan Sullinger and Rev. Golden Shook.
Born August 13, 1906, at Marlow, Mr. Newman died February 20, 1993, in the Love County Health Center, Marietta, at the age of 86. He had lived in Marietta since 1974, moving back here from Liberty, Texas, where he had retired as a drilling superintendent with E. L. Oliver and Company. He was married to the former Ola Lynch at Marietta on July 17, 1926, and she preceded him in death on November 8, 1992. Mr. Newman was a Mason and a member of the Baptist Church at Marlow.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Fern Markwell of the home in Marietta; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Alexander of Allen, Texas; two granddaughters, Pima Battershell and Kima Sullinger; and five great-grandchildren.
Masonic graveside rites were conducted Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in Crestview Memorial Park, Wichita Falls, Texas. Services were under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Vernon Griffin, James Bell, Dub Bell, Joe Bell, Frank McKay, and Fred McKay.
