Services for Paul H. McGill, 82, of Thackerville, were held at 2 p.m.,
Thursday, December 7, at the Thackerville Community Church of Christ, with Bro.
Murray McMurray officiating.
Mr. McGill was born June 26, 1918, at Thackerville, the son of Oscar J. and
Clugh Rhodes McGill. He died Tuesday, December 5, 2000, in Mercy Memorial
Health Center, Ardmore.
He had been a resident of the Thackerville area most of his life, and he and
Gertrude Lemons Gibson were married June 25, 1955, in Denton, Texas. Mr.
McGill had owned and operated McGill Carpets of Marietta for over 35 years. He
served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was awarded a number of
commendations including the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory
Ribbon, the AP Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the
American Defense Service Ribbon.
Mr. McGill helped develop the Love County Military Museum in Marietta and was
still an active member. He was also a member of the Thackerville Community
Church of Christ, the Love County Chamber of Commerce, the National Rifle
Association, the Gainesville VFW and a Life Member of the American Legion in
Marietta.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude McGill of the home; one son and daughter-
in-law, Dwayne and Jane Gibson of Thackerville; one step-son and daughter-in-
law, Don and Wanda Coleman of Gainesville, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law,
Rise and Larry Ferguson of Marietta; 11 grandchildren and 30 great-
grandchildren.
Mr. McGill was preceded in death by his parents; a son and daughter-in-law,
Clayton "Curly" and Janet McGill; two brothers, Sheriff Clyde McGill and
William "Buster" McGill; and two sisters, Margaret Jones and Daisy Campbell.
Serving as pallbearers were famly members Eric Ferguson, Brad Gibson, James
Gibson, Tim Robertson, Sheldon Bone and Keith Hoedebeck. Honorary pallbearers
were Rep. Fred Stanley, Eldridge Colston, Roger Vaughan, Hap Cox, L.A. West and
Terry Vaughan.
Interment in Lakeview Cemetery was under the direction of Flanagan-Watts
Funeral Home.
The family has requested memorial contributions to the American Heart
Association, c/o Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, 100 East Main, Marietta, OK
73448.
