Services for Oleta McKerchie, 70, of Slidell, Texas, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, at Jimtown Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Gunnels officiating.
Mrs. McKerchie was born August 26, 1932, in Montague County, Texas, the daughter of James William and Stella Brewer Herron. She died Saturday, October 19, 2002, in Denton Community Hospital, Denton, Texas.
She had made her home in Houston, Texas, since 1951, before moving to Slidell in 1995. She and George McKerchie were married June 10, 1975. Mrs. McKerchie had been employed as a meat wrapper at Weingartens Grocery Store. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, George McKerchie of the home; a daughter, Deborah Blakley of Slidell, Texas; a stepdaughter, Gloria McKerchie of Cedarville, Michigan; a stepson, George James McKerchie of Clear Lake, Texas; a brother, Ernest Herron of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Thelma Smith of Butler and Irene Clark of Conroe, Texas; a grandson, Stan Blankenship; and two stepgrandchildren, Taylor McKerchie and Shannon Star McKerchie.
Mrs. McKerchie was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John S. Blakley on September 5, 1983; two daughters, Lavonia Blakley and Patricia Blakley; a son, Bill Blakley; and four brothers, Claude Herron, Clifford Herron, Laranzy Herron and Weldon Herron.
Pallbearers were Matthew Curran, Christopher Curran, Allen Woods, Dale Hardwick, Marion Hicks and Nolen Wayne Hicks.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Curran and Bud Smith.
Interment was in the Jimtown Cemetery, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
