Graveside services for Lloyd McCarty, 85, were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 30, in the Bourland-Belleville Cemetery, Courtney, with Bro. Jimmy Morris officiating. The eulogy was given by Mark Teel.
Mr. McCarty was born October 21, 1914, in Love County, the son of Leo and Ella Sanders McCarty. He died Sunday, August 27, 2000, in Mercy Memorial Health Center in Ardmore.
He had been a resident of Love County all of his life. He and Bessie Viola Barton Welch were married December 24, 1943, at Belleville. Mr. McCarty served in the U.S. Army, 96th Division, during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart in addition to the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars. He was a farmer/rancher and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie McCarty of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Dewayne and Wetona McCarty of Courtney; three daughters and sons-in-law, LaRay and Meril Hodges, Louise Harris and Pat and Gary Martin, all of Healdton; two brothers, Clarence McCarty of Courtney and Lawrence McCarty of Leon; nine grandchildren, Lynn Hodges, Sandra Hodges, Michelle Blakemore, Jim Harris, Melissa Harris, Kevin Martin, Kim Martin, Stephanie McCarty and Shelby McCarty; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. McCarty was preceded in death by one daughter, Nora Jean Peavler in 1996.
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons and sons-in-law.
Services were under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
