Graveside services for James Humphrey "Jim" Marshall III, 60, of Falconhead, were held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 11, at Jimtown Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Caro officiating.
Mr. Marshall was born July 23, 1943, in Dallas, the son of James Humphrey II and Frances Mitchell Marshall. He died Friday, August 8, 2003, at his residence.
A resident of Falconhead for the past nine years, he had previously lived in Durant and Bokchito. He and Judith Ann Lawrence were married in 1964 in Johnson City, Texas. Mr. Marshall attended elementary school at Marfa, Texas, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, and high school at Hillcrest of North Dallas, Texas. He furthered his education at the Schriner Military Institute of Kerrville, Texas, and Southwest Texas State University, before earning a bachelor's degree and master's degree in geography at the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Marshall received his administration certifi-cation at the University of Tulsa. He served as superintendent of the Marietta Public Schools for seven years. He was of the Christian faith.
Jim was a compassionate and beautiful person who derived ever increasing joy from his family, whom he loved deeply. Inseparable from who he was, was his love of nature, astronomy, organic gardening, music and running. Jim was a deeply spiritual man who demonstrated, in his professional and private life, his awareness of God and good in everything and everyone. Among the dearest places to his heart were the high deserts of West Texas and the family farm in Bokchito.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Marshall of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Alisa Peden Marshall of Fort Worth, Texas, and John and Mandy Burton Marshall of Jimtown; a brother, John Mitchell "U.J" Marshall of Marfa; a grandson, Winston Chandler Marshall; and nieces and nephew, Lauren Michelle Armstrong and husband John, Erin Elizabeth Marshall, and Gregory Scott Marshall and wife Leslie.
Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary pallbearers were Larry Bennett, Frank Lornes, Tom Kimball, Charlie Roberts, Paul Riley, Dr. J.T. O'Connor, Jr. and Chestney Faulkenberry.
