Services for Faber Lorene Melson, 84, of Osceola, Texas, were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, at Clayton Kay-Vaughan Funeral Chapel in Itasca, Texas, with Dudley Watson and Anthony Estell officiating.
Mrs. Melson was born February 20, 1919, in Leon, the daughter of Henry and Mary Montgomery Hyman. She died Sunday, August 24, 2003, at a Fort Worth, Texas hospital.
Born and raised at Leon, Mrs. Melson graduated from Leon High School. She and Ervin Melson were married August 31, 1938, and he preceded her in death on May 27, 1964, after 26 years of marriage. Mrs. Melson was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she helped with Vacation Bible School and cooked for the church.
Mrs. Melson was an assembler for Harris Electric in Itasca until her retirement in 1983. She had been a resident of Grandview Nursing Facility for the past year. The Melson family moved to Osceola, on New Years Day 1952, where she raised her seven children and lived in the family home until a stroke in 2002 left her unable to remain there.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Val and Jim Ann Melson of Cleburne, Texas, M.A. "Bud" Melson of Lake Whitney, Texas, Larry and Karen Melson of Rio Vista, Texas; and Gary and Debby Melson of Osceola; two daughters and son-in-law, Rachel and Wornell Medford of Rio Vista, and Raye Melson of Rio Vista; a sister, Velma Reed of Rubottom; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Hazel Hyman of Rubottom; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Melson was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Melson in 1983; four sisters, Hazel Hyman, Lily Buchanon, Stella Flatt and Nettie Doughty; and two brothers, Aubrey Hyman and Emerson Hyman.
Pallbearers were Mark Melson, Jason Melson, Gary Don Melson, Dewayne McCullough, Don Flatt and Randy Schoor. Honorary pallbearers were Justin Melson, "Little" James Melson, David Melson, Wornell Medford and Kenny McCullough.
Interment was in Itasca Cemetery, under the direction of Clayton Kay-Vaughan Funeral Home, Itasca.
