Services for Verna Faye Lewis, 85, of Yuma, Arizona, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 8, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ray Hilliard officiating.
Mrs. Lewis was born February 29, 1916, in DeQueen, Arkansas, the daughter of Will and Myrtle Smith Spence. She died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in a Boarding Home in Yuma.
She had made her home in Yuma for the past 20 years, moving there from Oakdale, California. A homemaker, Mrs. Lewis was employed as a cook at the Greenville School and also as a dietician at Stanford University, Stanford, California, before her retirement. She was of the Baptist faith. She was married to W.E. "Ed" Lewis and he preceded her in death in 1975.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Lewis of Yuma; two daughters, Ann Stewart of Yuma and Judy Lopez of Mi-Wuk Village, California; a sister, Marine Jacobs of Marietta; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Lewis was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marcena Lewis; a son, Tommy Lewis; and four brothers, Charlie Spence, Tom Spence, Don Spence and Harold Spence.
Serving as pallbearers were Jeff Jacobs, Jay Lewis, Allen Woody, Ronald Jacobs, Jesse Kirk and Duard Sharp. Honorary pallbearers were Claude Brannan, Clyde Rhoades, Monroe Thompson, Jack McGehee, Rudolph McGehee and David McGehee.
Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville,(Love County, OK)under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
