Graveside services for Newel H. "Pete" Lowe, 88, of Gila Bend, Arizona, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, at Leon Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmy May officiating.
Mr. Lowe was born October 5, 1913, at Rubottom, the son of Howard and Emma Ivins Lowe. He died Wednesday, November 28, 2001, in Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Raised at Rubottom, Mr. Lowe attended school there and also farmed there for many years. In August 1932, he and Pearl Stockton were married in Ringling. The couple continued to make their home in Oklahoma until 1948 when they moved to Friendly Corners, Arizona. Mr. Lowe played baseball for a team in Eloy, Arizona, in a semipro league. In 1962 the moved to Gila Bend. Mr. Lowe was a cotton farmer and a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Pearl Lowe of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Donna Lowe of Benson, Arizona; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Howard Higgs of Burneyville, Peggy and Bill Dick of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Wilma Peterson of Coolidge, Arizona; two sisters, Burnita Lawson of Arizona City, Arizona, and Mary Lou Hallum of Rubottom; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 220 N. Martin Street, Gila Bend, Arizona 85337.
