Services for J.B. Lawson, 86, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, with the Rev. L.E. "Chief" Lawson and Carol Wayne Flanagan officiating.
Mr. Lawson was born October 16, 1914, at Marietta, the son of Jim Franklin and Nora Bell Balthrop Lawson. He died Sunday, June 24, 2001, in Mercy Memorial Health Center in Ardmore.
Mr. Lawson had lived in Love County most of his life. He and Veda Bea Scott were married in November 1974 at Sulphur and she preceded him in death September 8, 1998. Mr. Lawson served in the U.S. Navy - Seabees during World War II. He was employed in the oil field and also as a carpenter and retired from the Love County road crew. Mr. Lawson enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Jim F. Lawson of Marietta and Max L. Lawson of Ardmore; two daughters, Clara Reece Claunch of Lexington and Brenda K. Ringwald of Purcell; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great- grandchildren.
Mr. Lawson was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eual Lawson, Woodrow Lawson and H.B. Lawson; and a sister, Ruby J. Flanagan.
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons Bruce Clark, Gary Bonner, Johnny Claunch, Tim Garver, Leon Engdahl and Toby Ringwald. Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons and great-grandsons.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
