Graveside services for Jewell E. Henderson, 82, of Ardmore were Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Greenville Cemetery with Bro. Scott Gordon officiating.
Born December 29, 1916, at Marietta, Mrs. Henderson died April 11, 1999, at Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore. She was the daughter of Ezra P. and Nettie J. Raye Colston.
Mrs. Henderson grew up in Marietta and attended school here. She earned an Associates Degree from Cooke County College, and a Bachelors Degree and teaching certificate from Adams State College at Alamosa, Colorado, in 1969. Mrs. Henderson taught public school in Colorado until her retirement. She then worked as a realtor in Texas and Oklahoma until her illness. Mrs. Henderson attended Eastside Baptist Church of Marietta. She was a past member of Evening Star and played piano in the church.
Survivors include a son, Joel Andy Henderson of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Cindy Rose of Tulsa; a stepbrother, Harold Barber of Florida; a stepsister, Ruby Muncy of Marietta; nephews, Jerry and Susan Montgomery of Overbrook and David Montgomery of Greenville; a grandson, John Rose of Tulsa; numerous great-nephews and great-nieces and a host of cousins.
Mrs. Henderson was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Colston and Edna Mae Housley; stepmother, Lillie Colston; and a stepbrother, James Barber.
Services were directed by Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were nephews and honorary bearers were Bob Colston, Don Flanagan, Billy Flanagan, Joe Colston, Jerry Flanagan and Calvin Montgomery.
