Services for Ethel McCain Fields were September 17 at 1:00 p.m. in Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Emmitt Jones and Rev. Lawrence Anderson officiating.
Born July 6, 1914, at Ran, Mrs. Fields died September 11, 1999, in an area hospital following an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late James Ervin and Eula Young McCain. Mrs. Fields was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served as Church Clerk and on the Mothers' Board. Her husband, James Fields, Sr., preceded her in death in December 1979.
She is survived by a son, Claudell Fields of Ardmore; three daughters, Peggy Purvey of Ardmore, Charlesetta Newberry of Oklahoma City and Lillie Anderson of Lawton; 25 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Fields was also preceded in death by a son, James Fields, Jr., in June 1984.
Interment in Prairie View Cemetery was directed by Kirk-Dawson-Dillard Funeral Home, Ardmore. Active casket bearers were Vincent Purvey, Victor Fields, Carl Fields, Eric Fields, Abraham Kerns and Charles Green. Honorary bearers were grandsons, Frank Purvey, Robert Purvey, Willie Fields, Wendell Fields, Darryl Fields, Gerald Fields, Barry Kerns, Chris Cox and Shannon Black-Cox. Granddaughters serving as flower bearers were Priscilla Douglass, Terrie King, Celestine Rucker, Anita Jackson, Roberta Purvey and Joyce Kerns.
