Memorial services for Warren Dane Elrod, 51, of Gainesville, Texas, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Copperas Cove, Texas.
Mr. Elrod was born September 24, 1949, at Sanderson, Texas. He died Monday, March 5, in a Killeen Hospital.
He obtained a composite social science degree from Sul Ross Junior College of Del Rio, Texas, and Virginia State University, and special education certification from Texas Womens University. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1971-1977. While in the service, Mr. Elrod received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Parachute Badge and Sharpshooter Badge M-16. He later received an honorable discharge.
He and Ronda Kay Dawson were married March 30, 1972, in Hopewell, Virginia. Mr. Elrod taught school at Hopewell, Lindsey, Texas, and Del Rio. He taught in the Gainesville Independent School District for over 20 years until retirement. He was a life member of DAV, a member of the Elks Lodge in Del Rio and the Gypsy Motorcycle International and was a past Boy Scout leader of Troop 668 in Gainesville. Mr. Elrod was of the protestant faith.
Survivors include his wife, Ronda K. Elrod of the home; a son, Vincent Elrod of Fort Riley, Kansas; a daughter, Tammy K. Elrod of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers, Durrel L. Elrod of Del Rio and Raymond N. Elrod of Tacoma, Washington; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Elrod was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were under the direction of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.
