Services for Estelle Janette Nichols Evans, 94, of Ardmore, formerly of Overbrook, were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Altus, with the Rev. Boyd Whitehead and the Rev. Robert Colston III officiating.
Mrs. Evans was born March 24, 1909, at Turnersville, Texas, the daughter of Hugh James and Emma F. Powell Dollins. She died Saturday, July 26, 2003, in the Elmbrook Nursing Home, Ardmore.
A resident of Jackson County most of her life, Mrs. Evans moved to Overbrook to make her home in 1988. She and Andrew A. Nichols were married in Altus in September 1929. She later married George Groff Evans at Elmer in May 1950. Both husbands preceded her in death. Mrs. Evans was a homemaker. She attended school at Whitney, Texas, and also at Buffalo, east of Caddo. Mrs. Evans was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Altus. She was a Sunday School teacher, active in WMU, served as Church Clerk and also assisted with Vacation Bible School at the Elmer Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold G. and Marion Nichols of Overbrook and Gary W. and Linda Nichols of Wichita Falls, Texas; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Evans was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, William Dollins, Wendell Dollins, Elmer Dollins, Walter Dollins and Grady Dollins; and two sisters, Mildred Smith and Lena Howard.
Pallbearers were great-grandsons, Steven Houdek, Danny Houdek, Matt Thurmond, Brandon Wyatt, Eric Wyatt and Reese Thurmond. Honorary pallbearers were great-grandchildren, Mitzi Flynn, Rachel Colston, Alec Nichols, Bradi Nichols, Andrew Nichols and D.J. Flynn.
Interment was in the Restlawn Cemetery, Altus, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
