Graveside services with full military honors for Donnie W. Evans, 64, of Greenville, were held at 4 p.m., Friday, June 22, at the Greenville Cemetery, with Carol Wayne Flanagan officiating.
Mr. Evans was born February 17, 1937, in Copperall, Texas, the son of Ralph L. and Helen Giblin Evans. He died Monday, June 18, 2001, in Monte Vista, Colorado.
Mr. Evans had been a resident of the Greenville community most of his life. He and Louise Meredith were married July 2, 1955, in Ardmore. Mr. Evans graduated from Greenville High School in 1955 and then served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired as Chief Petty Officer-E7. In 1980 he graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant and then taught science at Dickson High School for 16 years. Mr. Evans was a member of the Marietta Gunfighters Association for 33 years. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Mr. Evans was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Evans of the home; his mother, Helen Evans of the Greenville community; a son and daughter-in-law, Gavin and Melody Evans of Choctaw; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Dale Redding of the Shady Dale community, Susan and Phil Knox of the Greenville community, and Karen and Kelvin Schoonover of Frederick; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Kenneth and Ruth Evans of Lawton and Benny Evans of Stillwater; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and David Kirby of the Greenville community; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Lisa Knox, Jessica, Ian and Molly Redding, Melinda, Tony and Ginger Evans and Kelsey Schoonover; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah Knox.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Evans, on May 16, 1998; a daughter, Ginger Evans, in 1968; and an infant brother, Ronald Lee Evans, in 1935.
Serving as pallbearers were Jimmy Lee Evans, Benny Evans, Kenneth Evans, Larry Evans, Ian Redding and Josh Knox. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Marietta Gunfighters Association.
Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
