Memorial services for James Henry Carter were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Lone Grove with Rev. Jill Clark officiating.
Born February 1, 1918, at Burneyville, Mr. Carter died August 12, 1997, in the Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore. He was the son of Jack A. and Ruby Burney Turner Carter.
Mr. Carter was raised at Burneyville and attended school there, graduating from Burneyville High School in 1936. He attended Murray State School of Agriculture for two years, completing his BSEE degree at Oklahoma State University in 1942. Mr. Carter and the former Vivian Elaine Bruce were married on January 31, 1942, at Stillwater.
For 28 years Mr. Carter was employed with General Electric as Manager of Marketing and Engineering, designing large steam turbine generators during World War II. He was then in Jackson, Michigan, for GE in field sales for power generator equipment, nuclear, gas, oil and coal and fired large utlity power plants throughout the world. Mr. Carter retired in 1983 as a marketing manager from Utility Power Systems in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Carters moved to Ardmore in 1984.
Mr. Carter was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lone Grove and the Burneyville Alumni Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vivian Carter of the home; three daughters, Janet Carter of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Sally Carter of Gallup, New Mexico, and Cindy Maloney of Inglewood, California; a son, James H. Carter II of Boulder, Colorado; two sisters, Beryle Moore of Ardmore and Jean Cole of Midland, Texas; a brother, Turner Carter of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 314, Lone Grove, OK 73443; or Valley Hope Rehabilitation Clinic, 100 S. Jones, Cushing, OK 74023.
Services were directed by Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.
