Memorial services for Gailya "Gaye" Ardeta Hull Curran, 62, of Falconhead, Burneyville, were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 13, at the Falconhead Christian Fellowship Chapel, Burneyville, with the Rev. Denise Balmer officiating.
Mrs. Curran was born November 14, 1941, in Ardmore, the daughter of William Fred "Chick" and Hardena "Dena" Elizabeth Fletcher Hull. She died Thursday, November 11, 2004, at her residence at Falconhead.
A graduate of Duncan High School, Gaye then attended Central State University, Edmond. During the summer of 1960, she met the love of her life, Jack Curran of Healdton. They were married at Healdton on January 27, 1962, and graduated with teaching degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant.
Gaye and Jack moved to Colorado in 1964. They loved traveling the mountain roads, reveling in the awesome beauty of nature. In 1968 while living in Nucla, Colorado, the next love of her life, a son, Jay Wyn Curran, was born. Before Jay started to school, Gaye operated a flower shop out of their home in Nucla so she could spend time with Jay.
Gaye spent her career in public education both as an elementary teacher and middle school and high school counselor. Three years before she retired from public education, Gaye and Jack bought and restored a log cabin, making it into a very successful Bed and Breakfast known as Riversbend. It sat along the Mancos River outside of Mancos, Colorado. She cherished the friendships that she and Jack made with their guests from all over the world.
Gaye had an insatiable love of learning. She completed her master's degree and continued adding to her education throughout her life. She completed training for Income Tax Preparer and qualified as a real estate agent. Gaye also served as a summer tour guide at Mesa Verde National Park.
In 2003, Gaye and Jack moved to Falconhead, Burneyville.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Jack Curran of the home; a son, Jay Wyn Curran of Durango, Colorado; parents, Chick and Dena Hull of Marietta; a sister and brother-in-law, Royce and Eldon Pendergast of Orange, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Cynthia Hull of Chinle, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, Inc., in care of the funeral home.
This obituary included a picture of Mrs. Curran.
