Wilfred Preston Barber

Graveside services for Wilfred Preston "Bill" Barber were Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Lakeview Cemetery. Officiating was Lyndol Adams.
Mr. Barber was born August 26, 1922, at Wilson, the son of Virgil Preston and Vera Pauline Leeper Barber, and died July 24, 1999, in a Madill nursing facility at the age of 76.
Mr. Barber was reared in Love County and joined the United States Army in 1940. During World War II he fought in such places as Luzon, New Guinea, Bismark Archipelago and the Southern Philippines where he earned the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and the Bronze Service Arrowhead. Following his discharge from the military in 1945, Mr. Barber worked as a farmer and rancher for many years. He and Florence Pinnick were married at Cameron, Mssouri, on April 15, 1985. That same year they moved back to Love County where they continued to reside until he moved to Madill three months ago. Mr. Barber was of the Holiness faith.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Barber of Marietta; two sons, Nelson Barber of Marietta and Ricky Barber of Ardmore; three brothers, John Cletis Barber of Ardmore, George Barber of Oklahoma City and Paul Cranmore of Norman; two sisters, Marie Holt of Marietta and Mary Lou Lamblardo of California; many stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and niece and nephews.
Mr. Barber was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Van Barber.
Services were directed by Watts Funeral Home, Madill.
