Services for Orbie Edward Butler were Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Marietta's First Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Idell officiating, assisted by David Gardner.
Born October 12, 1913, at Marsden, Mr. Butler died March 4, 1995, in the Veterans Center in Ardmore at the age of 81. He was the son of Edward Gilbert and Annie Nettie Meeks Butler.
A resident of Love County most of his life, he married Geraldine Gardner September 21, 1940, at Brock. He served in the Army during World War II, participating in the Invasion of Normandy and received a Purple Heart. Mr. Butler was employed as a contract pumper, was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Marietta, and an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Butler of the home; a son, Glen Butler of Spring, Texas; three daughters, Gale Holt and Coletha Porter of Marietta and Shelia Idell of Ardmore; a brother, Sidney Butler of Marsden; two sisters, Lois Holley and Velma Trent of Ardmore; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Butler was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Interment in the Crinerville Cemetery was under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Dustin Holt and Merle Porter; and nephews, Lester Butler, Walter Butler, Greg Holly and Mark Ellis. Honorary bearers were Gale Harris and Dale Harris.
