Services for Max M. Beasley were conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Ardmore, with Rev. Tommy Higle, pastor of Marietta’s First Baptist Church, officiating.
Born September 21, 1911, at Marsden, Mr. Beasley died August 22, 1993, at the Love County Health Center in Marietta at the age of 81. He was the son of William and Winnie Coleman Beasley.
A resident of Love County most of his life, Mr. Beasley married Arna Hinds on February 26, 1938, in Ardmore. He graduated from Berwyn High School and received a B.S. degree from Texas A&I University in 1941. Mr. Beasley was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. In 1947 he opened the first Vocational-Agriculture Department in Love County when he was employed by the Marietta Schools as Vo-Ag Instructor and FFA Advisor, a position he held for 28 years.
Mr. Beasley will also be remembered for the outstanding Christmas plays he directed with the Marietta School students, unique parade floats, and for his work with the Frontier Days Melodramas.
He was a longtime member of Burch Bros. Post #136 of the American Legion, holding the position of Service Officer at the time of his death. Mr. Beasley was a member of Marietta’s First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Arna Beasley of the home; a daughter, Eileen Beasley of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Mary Eunice Almond of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Beasley was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Hale, Gladis Weeks and Jewel Scarberry; and a brother, Jesse Beasley.
Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Ardmore, was under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home of Marietta. Serving as pallbearers were Chris Lemons, Don Bennett, Buddy Powell, Charles Mapp, Paul Barber, and Allen Burns. Honorary bearers included Fred T. McMeans, W. W. (Slick) Davenport, Eldridge Colston, Dick Cochran, Caesar Lang, George Harkey, Bill Finke, and Haskell Morgan.
