Services for Murray Billingsley, 90, were Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Church of Christ with Bro. Ray Hilliard and Bro. Floyd Johnson officiating.
Born July 21, 1909, at Marietta, Mr. Billingsley died November 2, 1999, at his residence in Marietta. He was the son of Robert E. Lee and Alma Stansbury Billingsley.
Mr. Billingsley had lived at Marietta and in Love County all of his life. He and Floy Murrell were married on June 6, 1936, at Gainesville, Texas. Mr. Billingsley owned and operated the Marietta Bakery for 25 years before working for the Little Brownie Cookie Shop where he retired in 1974. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Marietta and served as a church elder for 39 years.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Sam and Mary Sue Billingsley of Searcy, Arkansas; two sisters, Linnie Pearl Shobe and Katherine Walker of Gainesville; five grandchildren, David Durrill, Danny Durrill, Scott Billingsley, Susan Billingsley and Sara Billingsley; and four great-grandchildren, Sam Durrill, Laura Durrill, Molly Durrill and Evan Durrill.
Mr. Billingsley was preceded in death by his wife on August 5, 1995; a daughter, Barbara I. Cleek on September 14, 1988; and four brothers, Sam Billingsley, Warren Billingsley, Fred Billingsley and Gene Billingsley.
Services were under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home with interment in Lakeview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eric Henderson, Danny Frazier, Scott Flanagan, Monroe Thompson, Tim Hicks and Pete Jordan. Honorary bearers were Travis Givens, Norman Flanagan, Rudolph McGehee, Cecil Hambrick, Travis Scott, Claude Brannan and Bill McGehee.
