Services for Lillie Buckhanon, 97, were Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Leon Baptist Church. Officiating was Rev. Dwight Hawkins with a eulogy by Terry Hyman.
Born June 12, 1901, at Bulcher, Texas, Mrs. Buckhanon died March 8, 1999, in Lake Country Manor Nursing Home, Marietta. She was the daughter of Henry and Mary Montgomery Hyman.
A resident of Leon most of her life, she married Bill Buckhanon on July 6, 1924, at Leon. Mrs. Buckhanon was a housewife and a member of the Leon Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Georgie Belle Buckhanon of Falconhead; a daughter and son-in-law, Odessa and Pete Hunt of Overbrook; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Hazel Hyman of Rubottom; three sisters, Velma Reed of Rubottom, Faber Melson of Itasca, Texas, and Stella Flatt of White Settlement, Texas; a sister-in-law, Leona Hyman of Leon; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Buckhanon was preceded in death by her husband on March 21, 1955; a brother, two sisters, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Interment was in the Leon Cemetery directed by Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Arthur Buckhanon, Carol Gilbert, Jimmy Gilbert, Thurman Lynn Gilbert, Ricky Gilbert and Kenneth Gilbert. Honorary bearers were great-grandsons and Marion Gilbert.
