Services for Joe Boyett of Purcell were Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Officiating was Rev. Tommy Higle, pastor of Marietta’s First Baptist Church.
Mr. Boyett was born July 31, 1934, in Thackerville, the son of Doy and Hazel Roberson Boyett, and died November 17, 1992, in a Purcell hospital at the age of 58.
He had lived in Purcell for four years, moving there from Oklahoma City where he had lived for two years. Mr. Boyett was raised in Thackerville and graduated from Thackerville High School in 1953. He moved to Ardmore where he had made his home until six years ago. Mr. Boyett had been in the produce business for many years and most recently had been the site manager for the Delta Community in Purcell.
Mr. Boyett had served in the Army and was stationed in Alaska. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Hazel Nicholas of Marietta; a son, Michael Boyett of Ardmore; a daughter, Michelle Birdwell, also of Ardmore; a brother, David Boyett of Norman; a sister, Carol Burkhart of Marietta; a granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles and friends.
Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville, under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Hubert Sampson, Charles Young, Luke Langston, Ray Roberson, Walter Ray Lee, and John Burkhart.
The family has asked that donations be made to the Love County Cancer Fund, c/o Bank of Love County or Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home.
