Services for Everett Thomas Buckley, Sr., 81, were October 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the Summer Grove Baptist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating was Rev. Rod Masteller, pastor of Summer Grove Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Billy Crosby, associate pastor.
Mr. Buckley was born in Marietta on December 29, 1916, and died October 11, 1998. He was the son of Archie Thomas and Zona Naomi Johnston Buckley.
A graduate of Marietta High School, Mr. Buckley had been a resident of Shreveport for 52 years and had been employed with Pennzoil for the past 56 years. He had been a member of the Summer Grove Baptist Church since 1952, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. Mr. Buckley was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Veva Hamm Buckley of Shreveport; two sons and daughter-in-law, Everett Thomas Buckley, Jr. and JoAnn of Abbeville, Louisiana, and Donald Lynn Buckley of Keatchie, Louisiana; two daughters and son-in-law, Tena Louise Buckley of Longview, Texas, and Amy Michelle and Kenneth Higgs of Fort Myers, Florida; three step-children, Susan Hamm Cosse of Lenexa, Kansas, Robert Hamm of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kenneth Hamm of Benton, Louisiana; four sisters, Iris Landrum and Sally Roberts of Ardmore, Jeanene Bryant of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Sue Dvorak of Marietta; three brothers, Gerald Buckley of Sacramento, California, Joe F. Buckley of Marietta, and Benny Buckle of Tulsa; 19 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Buckley was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Rachel Louise Hays Buckley; his parents, Archie Thomas Buckley and Zona Naomi Johnston Buckley; brother, Kelly Buckley; and a son, Frederick Buckley.
Interment was in the Summer Grove Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Rose- Neath Funeral Home, Southside Chapel. Pallbearers were Mike Buckley, Scott Buckley, Patrick Buckley, David Buckley, Joe Buckley, Trey Hagan and Joseph Stone. Honorary bearers were Brian Hamm, David Hamm, Robyn Higgs, Michael Cosse, Donny Cosse and Christopher Cosse.
